💪 6 Powerful ADHD Supports for School

If you work in schools or support kids with ADHD, you know that 504s and IEPs are meant to remove barriers to learning. The are legally binding supports that the education team is required to follow.

But here’s the thing...

A lot of families (and some educators) aren’t exactly sure what accommodations to add to these documents. They see the challenges: difficulty sitting still, completing work, emotional outbursts, but they may not always know what meaningful supports could actually help.

To bridge that gap, we're here to share 6 accommodations that we often recommend for kids with ADHD:

💡 Preferential Seating: Reduces distractions by placing the student near the teacher and away from doors or high-traffic areas.

💡 Movement Breaks: Helps meet sensory needs and improve attention through brief, structured opportunities for movement throughout the day.

💡 Frequent Task Reminders: Supports working memory with regular, nonjudgmental prompts to help kids stay on track.

💡 Alternative Seating: Options like wobble stools or standing desks can allow subtle movement to improve focus without disruption.

💡 Fidgets That Aren’t Distracting: Sensory tools can help maintain alertness, as long as they’re appropriate for the setting and the student.

💡 Chunking Assignments: Breaking tasks into smaller steps supports initiation and completion, especially when combined with check-ins or visuals.

These accommodations don’t change WHAT being taught. Instead, they change HOW the educational content is accessed. And that’s the key to successful learning for our kids with ADHD!

Are you ready to go deeper and learn even more evidence-based strategies for ADHD?

Then you won't want to miss the Unlocking ADHD Workshop from Alisha at Your Kid’s Table!

This workshop dives into the brain-body strategies that can change the trajectory for these kids at home, in therapy, and at school.

In the training, you’ll learn:

  • What retained primitive reflexes are often a key factor for ADHD
  • How to use video games-even in treatment for an increase in EF skills (the research is incredible!)
  • If nutrition really impacts the ADHD brain-and which changes can truly help

PLUS, you’ll get 2 AOTA-approved CEUs, slides, printables, and lifetime access. It’s open exclusively for our Inspired Treehouse community right now. But, the offer ends tonight, so don't wait!!
